Questions are the Answer!

As the end of 2017 draws near, the demand for strategic planning for the coming year(s) grows more urgent. The last few months of this year has proven to be challenging for those in the Houston and surrounding areas. Now more than any time in our history, we must plan and prepare for our future. Many of us may have been affected physically and financially by Hurricane Harvey. All of us will be affected by the current tax reform in Washington. I would like to be of assistance in this planning season.

Most people know I believe in asking as many questions as it takes to understand your situation. As you move forward in 2018, I would like you to ponder the following questions:

1. Are you able to gather your documents for tax preparation easily (receipts, bank/credit card statements, property insurance documentation in case of hurricane damage, etc)?

If not, are you able to recreate expense documentation?

2. Have you taken advantage of possible adjustments to your taxable income (IRA contributions, self employed health insurance, deductible green energy expenses, charitable contributions, etc)?

3. Are you actively and effectively reducing your debt?

4. Do you know your Financial Independence Number?
