All Hands On Deck

I received a call from one of my quarterly overview clients. The company principal asked about the last time I spoke with his accounting professional. He finally told me his accounting personnel had not yet provided him with the company financial statements. Please note the accounting professional received three total hours of QuickBooks training with me and had no prior QuickBooks or bookkeeping experience. They have seven (7) more hours available, but have not scheduled it to date. I took this opportunity to remind my client of some hard truths. 1. Your financial records need to be cleaned up by a professional bookkeeper 2. Your accounting professional will need more hands on training and ongoing support to be effective in this role 3. Management needs to participate in the QuickBooks training sessions to gain basic software knowledge.

Quickbooks training is not just for accounting personnel. Upper management should have a clear understanding of the company's financial position. We can get there by assessing the current financial records, defining clear objectives for the training, and developing a realistic process to present and maintain the company's financial records. I hope this helps other small business owners who have smart, capable people who are not producing the type of results they are hoping for YET. Starting fresh with clear objectives in mind could make for a better relationship. Getting involved, providing realistic feedback, and delegating specific tasks could make for a better experience for all stakeholders.
